I had attended a 5-day industry engagement boot camp during my winter break from 7th January to 11th January 2025. This bootcamp provided me an amazing opportunity to learn diverse aspects of industry. Being a commerce student, I became ecstatic when I learnt about business operation methods and the 5-day experience exceeded my highest expectations. I want to show you how my experience unfolded.
The boot camp inauguration brought together fantastic speakers for a panel presentation about enterprise management. During this discussion the guest speakers highlighted successful traits for business success and the supply chain fundamentals stood out to me since I had never studied this topic before. During our two-hour session with Ms. Chetna Sharma, Sales Director, BigSpring AI, we learnt about sales fundamentals. The main highlight of this session was when during our study of product persuasion techniques it was revealed that the essential role that strategic communication plays in attracting customers.
Day 2: My Favorite Day
The second day was, hands down, my favorite! It started with a session on human resources (HR), which was so much fun because it included a role-play activity. I played the “innocent teacher,” while my peer acted as the “cunning teacher.” Let’s just say by the end of it, I got labelled a snake (all in good humor, of course). The activity broke the ice between my peers and me, and we had such a blast laughing and learning together.
Then came the part I had been waiting for—FINANCE! I was already excited about this session, and it did not disappoint. The expert explained finance concepts so easily that I felt even more passionate about pursuing this field. Before the session, I was just interested in finance. However, after this session, I was in love with it!
Day 3 and 4: Learning from the Real World
On third day, the practical education took the forefront. We learnt about corporate operations through extended business insight. We had an industry visit to DRiV Tenneco’s Kitting Plant in Palwal. It was a new learning experience for me to have a firsthand experience of how a manufacturing unit looks like. My conversation with factory workers demonstrated to me the actual work that goes into product manufacturing. The conversation I had with the female workers of the factory had benefited me significantly in my research paper writing.
After the industry visit, on fourth day, we had a local market visit to Banjara Market in Gurgaon. We were assigned with a task to search for gifts to give our parents during our shopping trip. However, the main challenge was assigned budget of two-hundred-rupees. Being really bad at bargaining, the assignment proved difficult for me. By the end of this task, I was able to purchase gifts for my parents under the allotted budget. It was a new learning experience for me to shop by myself and even bargain with salesperson. I am extremely grateful for this experience!
Day 5: Wrapping Up with New Skills
The concluding two days served as a way to consolidate the learnt skills. I delivered a presentation about Deloitte’s expert auditing services during my final camp day. Through my research on Deloitte, I gained deep knowledge regarding the functionality of big businesses and their services for clients. The session concluded with my certificate delivery, marking the conclusion of this unforgettable week.
Final Thoughts
The boot camp provided exactly what I required as a commerce student. Lessons learnt in these five days have revealed that numerous aspects of business operations, including sales and HR, along with finance and supply chain management. When I entered the boot camp, I wanted to discover finance, whereas after the completion of the program, I have realized that I have gained a vast number of new insights. The combination of practical tasks together with market exploration and industrial site visits provided an experience that was both educational and exciting.
